Washington robusta appelé le palmier du mexique.
Le Washingtonia robusta est souvent confondu avec l’autre espèce du genre, le Washingtonia filifera. Il s’en distingue par un tronc plus fin et gracile, une couronne de feuilles moins dense et la présence de dents crochues proéminentes sur les bords du pétiole.
Il est légèrement moins résistant au froid que Washingtonia filifera, mais de croissance encore plus rapide.
